All of us are very much aware of the fact that Microsoft is the biggest giant in IT industry as far as Operating System development for personal computers is concerned. They dominate the IT market, with majority of the people throughout the world using their Operating Systems. Nobody had been able to succeed them in this field and they had performed exceptionally good till now. But now time is changing and recently many companies have emerged to give Microsoft a cutthroat competition in the development of operating systems for personal computers. Most significant of them are – Chrome OS from google and iOS from Apple.
Originally, iOS was developed as an operating system for Apple iPhones and later it was extended to be used in iPad as well. There is a fierce competition between Apple and Microsoft in the mobile phones market. iPhone from Apple and windows mobile phone from Microsoft are competing in the mobile market since a long time. One area where Apple iOS scores over Windows is the magnificent user interface that it provides to its users. However, Microsoft also did a great job by revamping and enhancing the user interface in Windows 8.
iOS provides a complete touchscreen environment which further enhances the overall user experience. Now, Windows 8 also came up with Metro User Interface and thus now it is also best optimized for the touchscreen environment. So, we can expect the rivalry between the two to become more backbreaking.
Before the advent of iOS 4, the multitasking feature in iOS was limited to few selected applications. Beyond iOS 4, there is full support for multitasking for all applications. Loaded with all these features, iOS might prove to be the biggest competitor of Microsoft Windows 8 in near future.
